Seattle Seahawks sign Ohio State offensive lineman Demetrius Knox to undrafted free agent contract

Former Ohio State offensive linemen Demetrius Knox signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

Coming out of high school, Knox was a four star recruit and was rated the number two guard in the country by Rivals. He went to All Saints Episcopal in Fort Worth, Texas. He helped lead All Saints to back to back 11-0 seasons and Southwest Preparatory School championships. He was also selected to play in the U.S. Army All American Bowl.

“It means a lot, being able to be the first NFL player from my high school, All Saints. It’s an honor and a blessing,” Knox said on what it means to be able to play in the NFL coming from Fort Worth.

While at Ohio State, Knox started the final 20 games he played in before suffering a season ending foot injury against Michigan on November 24th. This injury put Knox out for the Big Ten Championship and the Rose Bowl. Knox won 3 Big Ten Championships, 5 bowl games, and 1 National Championship while at Ohio State. As a red-shirt senior, Knox was named to third team all-Big Ten.

“At Ohio State, they teach you the first day you report to campus about what it means to be a pro," Knox said when asked how Ohio State helped him prepare for the next level. "The little things of just being on time and the effort you need to give to accomplish certain goals and how to be tough on and off the field. Those are the qualities that Ohio State has gave me to make this process smoother.”

While at Ohio State, Knox used center Billy Price as someone he looked up to.

“Billy Price, who is the starting center now for the Bengals, helped me out a lot during my time at Ohio State," Knox said. He was someone who just always did the right thing, so I tried to use him as the standard of how I should act.”

Coach Urban Meyer helped Ohio State blend together as a team. He seemed to always have his players 100% ready on game days.

“Coach Meyer would make the team go on a morning walk to get us moving around and get our minds right," Knox said. "We would study film and the plays all day. We would go over the game plan and have walk throughs so we could put ourselves in game time situations. Then we would head over to the stadium and play ball!”

Although he is coming off of injury, Knox’s foot is feeling way better.

“My foot is feeling a lot better. It’s nice being able to run around and play football again!”

Knox did not work out for the Seahawks but they did come to his pro day and also flew him out to Seattle for a top 30 visit.

“That visit was amazing and I fell in love with their organization” he said.

Knox did a lot of training to get himself ready for the Ohio State Pro Day. Because he was coming off injury, he had to make sure he was healthy before training.

“I trained down at APEC which is a facility in Texas, they put me on a food plan and their trainers got me ready to go physically.”

Seattle seems like the perfect fit for Knox. He is a versatile offensive linemen with lots of experience and will definitely be able to help protect Russell Wilson in the future.
