Creighton guard Marcus Zegarowski is day-to-day with hamstring injury
On Wednesday against Seton Hall, Marcus Zegarowski suffered a hamstring injury which will force him to sit out for the St. Johns game on Saturday and possibly even longer.
Creighton had a ton of success against the Red Storm earlier in the season. This was one of Zegarowski's better games this season. He scored 20 points and added five assists, two rebounds, and just one turnover in 32 minutes.
This is a tough injury for the Blue Jays as a whole given how important Zegarowski is to this team. Throughout his career, he's always been a tough player and has dealt with some injuries in the offseason. Last season, he suffered a torn meniscus injury which required surgery, however the season was canceled due the coronavirus prior to him missing any games.
Throughout his career at Creighton, Zegarowski has been one of the more impressive players for the team. Last season, Zegarowski was named Second Team All-Big East and Honorable Mention All-American by AP. There were high expectations for him heading into this season. He was named Big East Preseason Player of the Year.
With Zegarowski out, it will definitely hurt Creighton. However, it is better to let him rest and recover now and be ready for March. They will need guys like Denzel Mahoney to step up. It is still undetermined when Zegarowski will be returning from the injury.
